Letting Go of The Old, Embracing The New

Some years are better than others.
I give my 2010 a mediocre six out of ten. A Dickensesque “Best of times, worst of times” distinction. With that being said, reviewing the year yielded happiness and disappointment. There was stuff I couldn’t control but also instances where I was proactive and worked my tail off to great results. All have led me to start 2011 with high hopes, aspirations and goals and that includes my writing. As with each start of a new year, I will be looking back to see where I went wrong and looking forward to opportunities to apply newfound knowledge. If we just remember that January is named after the two-faced Roman god Janus (one face looking backward and one face looking forward) we can embody his essence, because you can’t plan where you’re going without knowing where you’ve been.
I know we all work differently Here is my recipe for a happy and productive start to a fresh year and I hope you will find this little list as a useful guideline for yourself as well.
1. Identify the areas of strength and keep doing these tasks; identify the areas of weakness and work on changing them.
2. Set a long-term goal list.
3. Break down the long-term goal list into manageable chunks to spread out over twelve months. At this point, I make sure that the ‘must dos’ are all bringing me closer to completion of the goals.
4. Dream big, but not impossible. You want to stretch to meet your goals but not have them be so hard that you get frustrated and give up.
5. Commit to consistency.
6. Realize and accept that there will be things you have no control over that will affect you.
7. Realize and accept that you ARE in control of how you react to these things.

So my dear friends, I wish a warm and Happy New Year to you all!Go and do great things.
