Story Inspiraton for The Great North Woods Cupid

Good morning, friends! The anthology that includes my latest story The Great North Woods Cupid has been released. I thought I would give you a little background on the location of this story as Pittsburg, NH is a real place that I loved getting a chance to see and experience.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to this area of New Hampshire with a few like-minded friends with the plan to take pictures of the moose that this little town is known for. The moose population is higher than the people population. Well, the moose didn't cooperate, we saw NONE (and in a place called Moose Alley! False advertisement!) BUT the seed of a story took root. Kayla and Evan's story grew out of this trip.
Pittsburg is remote and the place that Kayla needed to go to sort herself out. Evan needed the rugged fun of snowmobiling to clear his head, too.
In my story, the character of Old Sally owns the local general store and while there is no real Old Sally, her store is a combination of the little stores that are scattered around town. The Buck Stops Here Pub that is mentioned in the story is based on an actual restaurant called The Buck Rub Pub. And Alley Moose Cabins are based on the beautiful Cabins at Lopstick that my group stayed at and enjoyed.
If you get a chance to go snowmobiling or do some of the fishing that this area is known for, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did...and as much as Kayla and Evan!

Not One Moose Was Seen LOL!

Behind The Lens: Mississippi Welcome

Mississippi Welcome
December 31, 2013
Gulfport, Mississippi
This piece sold this week and I hope the buyer enjoys it as much as I did taking the picture!
I had just stepped off the plane on New Year's Eve and I had my camera ready. This sign had been on my list of things to photograph for a couple of months.
Spaces to park are scarce along the beach so I had to walk about a 1/4 mile to get to this spot on this unusually cold day in Mississippi. I passed Least Tern nesting areas on the way and though the day was overcast, enjoyed the beautiful beach. (The beaches in RI are mostly rocky and surely don't have palm trees there.)This was taken in the early afternoon just around lunchtime and I am quite happy now that there was no harsh light that day.
So, why do I like this picture? I'm not sure if the beauty of Southern Mississippi is known to many people that don't live there. I'm sure after the Gulf oil spill of 2010 people might imagine a coastline riddled with problems. The area still has spots that have not rebuilt from Hurricane Katrina but I think that once you set foot on the soft sand, you will appreciate the beauty that I have come to love.

The New Year Post

Wishing all of my readers and followers a Happy New Year!
It is one of my favorite times of the year because it is a time for fresh starts and planning (and I do love my planning!) The winds of change are blowing and with my Geminiacal need to reinvent and try new things, I am riding these winds with a vengeance! So exciting!
I spent New Year's week in Mississippi and explored a few new places that we hadn't been to. We had a great New Year's Eve lunch at the Beau Rivage and did some shopping. Interestingly, a Rhode Island casino company is buying the Hard Rock Hotel in Biloxi and I got excited about this other RI/MS connection. One thing I can say about both of the states that I call home is that they both have a super abundance of characters. Anyone from RI will fit in just fine *grin*
I'm looking forward to Season 4 of Downton Abbey starting tomorrow night (Jan 5) even though I have read spoilers. I bad...I cheated, but I know it's going to be a great season.
Speaking of British shows, Sean bought me the complete Keeping Up Appearances DVD set. We spent New Year's Eve watching and laughing. So happy I got the set.
I'm still waiting for the release date for the Valentine anthology that my story "The Great North Woods Cupid" is in. The next story after this book releases has a tentative release date in late April.
Hope all are enjoying the NFL playoffs....Go Patriots!!!!!
